William Shatner calls on Harper to put an end on seal hunt

PETA has ushered in a new age McCarthy era. Any actor who refuses to sign a letter protesting the seal hunt will be portrayed as an animal abuser and hounded out of the profession. Not only is the Harp Seal not endangered, its numbers throughout the North Atlantic exceed its carrying capacity (i.e. beyond the supply of food available to sustain it and therefore susceptible to natural collapse from starvation and disease). The annual harvest, which is aiding the slow recovery of Atlantic codfish from near extinction, is among the most humane, rigorously managed wild harvests in the world - far more humane than most farm animal slaughters. Its furs and hides produce warm, long-lasting, waterproof garments. Unlike clothing made from petroleum based synthetic fibers, reliance on renewable Harp Seal resources is ecologically and environmentally friendly. The meats are nutritious and far healthier than those obtained from chemically and genetically altered farm animals. There is no higher quality source of essential fatty acids - notably omega 3 oils - than the Harp Seal. Two or three grams a day of this stuff have been shown to stave off heart attacks, cancer, arthritis and a host of other diseases (that are thought to be on the rise due to a scarcity of omega 3 oils in our new age diets). Indeed as a horse lover, Shatner should be aware that seal oil is among the most powerful drug-free treatments for arthritis commonly suffered by older horses. Anyone who has witnessed older animals, including dogs, cats and horses, respond to omega 3 oil treatments would be astonished at their sudden enhanced mobility, energy and general disposition. (Incidentally, while fish oils are healthy they are structurally inferior to the oils found in marine mammals.) It is unfortunate that public figures like Shatner choose to support such money making charlatans without first taking the time to learn a few facts. We are used to this kind of empty headed nonsense from people like Pamela Anderson but had expected better from an intelligent person like Shatner.

I can tell you that seal meat is delicious.

But given that, lets say we take away, building automobiles, or drilling/digging for oil while we are at it.

Life is messy folks.

If whacking seals over the head makes you a living then go for it. It MUST be livlier than shuffling paper in an office and pretending your doing something important.

At least if your killing seals you can take your job home and eat it, I doubt many here can say that.
